10T sur 1 an, maman j'ai peur ! )
Riksbank to sell 10 tonnes gold over next 12 months
STOCKHOLM, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Sweden's central bank said on Friday it would sell up to 10 tonnes of gold during the next 12 months and use the proceeds to buy foreign currency denominated securities. The Riksbank said the sales would take place between Sept. 27 this year and Sept. 26, 2008, and were aimed at getting a better risk-adjusted return on its assets. The sale is in compliance with the Central Bank Gold Agreement between 15 European central banks which came into force on Sept. 27, 2004.
Under the five year agreement, the Riksbank can sell up to 60 tonnes of gold. So far it has sold a total of 35 tonnes. The Riksbank's gold reserve currently amounts to 150 tonnes.
END- "getting a better risk-adjusted return on its assets" You mean like England who sold their gold at $275 per ounce to do the same? Sheeple Sweden comes up with the same company line as the other central banks who admit selling gold. Whatever happened to the reason for owning the stuff in the first place? I.E., to have a reserve asset other than paper for diversification purposes – sort of like cheap catastrophic insurance.

The ECB weekly statement of condition, published a day late because of the quarter end, indicated gold sales by one bank, partially offset by gold coin acquisitions by another. In aggregate, the total amounted to only E17 mm last week, 1.11 tonnes at the new book value. The previous week was 1.56 tonnes. There has been heavy selling in gold on the recent rise: the ECB is staying out of the spotlight. Last week's COT numbers showed the commercials as huge sellers. If the ECB wasn't selling to stop the gold rise, especially in the first week of a new year under the Washington Agreement, then who was? Take a guess! _________________ Pépite Bull |

| ventes nettes de la semaine : 8.8 T.. 2 bques captives BCE ont vendu de l'or pendant qu'une3éme achetait des pièces d'or source midas The ECB statistics indicate that two CBs sold gold and one bought “gold coin” for a net disposal of E150 Mm or 8.8 tonnes at the new book value. Last week’s total was 1.1 tonnes, so it appears the ECB group has started the WAG2 year with a modest sales acceleration. If the Swiss, as is very likely, continued their c.1.5 tonne a day selling pace, CB gold sales last week were almost double the notional average of 9.6 tonnes needed to fill the yearly WAG2 quota of 500 tonnes. _________________ Pépite Bull |

| la Buba envisage de vendre 8 T pour wag4.. et encore, c'est pour faire des pièces .. source J.Brimelow Spoke with John Brimelow today who mentioned that the Bundesbank announced it would only sell 8 tonnes of gold next year and that was for minting coin purposes. Couldn’t find this bullish news anywhere.

The ECB data indicates that two CBs sold 6.74 tonnes of gold last week: the previous week the total was 8.8 tonnes. If the Swiss are selling at their recent pace of 8 or so tonnes a week the notional 9.6 tonnes needed to meet the WAG2 quota is being exceeded: but a significant sales program cannot be said to be underway. _________________ Pépite Bull |

| 7.5T de gold vendues par le systéme BCE, la semaine passée ECB data indicates that two captive CBs sold E126Mm of gold last week: 7.5 tonnes at the present book value. Last week’s total was 6 tonnes. Presuming the Swiss are continuing to sell at about 7.5 tonnes a week. CB sales are somewhat above the 9.6 tonne average needed to match the WAG2 level, but not massively so.

The ECB weekly statistics indicate that two CBs sold gold last week (a third bought gold coin) with a net reduction of 7.53 tonnes, almost exactly the same as last week’s 7.5 tonnes. Once again, if the Swiss are selling at their usual pace, this would imply CB sales about 50% more than the notional pace needed to sell the full WAG2 quota.

______________________________________________ Yesterday’s ECB Statement indicated that two captive CBs sold E184 Mm of gold last week, 11 tonnes at the current book value. Last week was 7.53 tonnes. This is the largest amount in some time, and taken with the presumed 7.5 tonnes of Swiss sales is almost double the 9.6 tonnes notional weekly average needed to fulfill the WAG2 quota. On the other hand, it is not much of a response to the price action. _________________ Pépite Bull |

| source midas Today’s ECB statistics indicated that last one captive CB sold, while another bought some gold coin, for a net disposal of E29Mm, 1.73 tonnes at the current book value. The previous week the disposal (again by one bank, net of some coin purchases) was E53Mm (3.17 tonnes), and the week before E66Mm (3.95 tonnes) also net of coin purchases. ECB group sales appear to be intimidated by high gold prices. Correspondence with friends indicates that the Swiss National Bank in fact sold only 12 tonnes of gold in October. This means the visible reserve sellers appear to be falling well behind the WAG2 quota pace, which notionally implies sales of some 9.6 tonnes a week.

source midas
The ECB announced this morning that it itself has sold 42 tonnes of gold, presumably since the start of the new WAG2 year at the end of September. Usually several weeks go by before this type of transaction shows up in the ECB weekly statistics. Since the bank did not say it was finished for the year, the likelihood is a further sale will occur: this pattern was first seen in 2006.
A very shrewd observer has suggested that the slow down in gold sales by the Swiss and captive ECB CBs of late was to accommodate this sale. If so, it would imply that WAG2 does have some sort of weekly ceiling pace, maybe around the notional required average WAG2 volume of 9.6 tonnes. That would be an important piece of news. _________________ Pépite Bull |

| On Tuesday the ECB weekly statement indicated that sales from captive CB (net of coin purchases by another) caused a reduction of gold holdings of E22Mm – 1.32 tonnes at the current book value. donc pas grand chose ...la semaine passée ..

)... et c'est pas la 1ere fois qu'on peut noter cela ... source midas The ECB weekly statement of condition indicated one captive CB disposed of E32Mm of gold last week, 1.92 tonnes at the current book value. The previous week the amount was 1.32 tonnes. So far the large sale by the ECB announced recently has not shown up in the consolidated accounts of the group.

source midas
News that the Swiss National Bank sold 11.3 tonnes of gold in November follows their only having sold 12.3 tonnes in October, and means the formerly very regular c.1.5 tonnes a business day pace has decisively slowed. One wonders why. The October reduction was hypothesized to have been accommodating the 43 tonne sale by the ECB itself, an idea presumably undermined by the November report. If the SNB abides by its’ public statements, they only have 112 tonnes left of the 250 tonnes they have said they will sell by September 2009: 5.1 tonnes a month. ............................................... Switzerland's Gold Sales Rose to 11.3 Metric Tons in November Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Switzerland sold 364,000 ounces (11.3 metric tons) of gold last month, about 4 percent more than in October. Gold reserves last month fell to 37.1 million ounces from 37.5 million in October, the Swiss National Bank said on its Web site today. Sales were 349,260 ounces in October. Switzerland has sold 3.9 million ounces, worth $3.13 billion, since Swiss National Bank governing council member Thomas Jordan announced plans in June that Switzerland would dispose of 250 tons of gold before the end of September 2009 and use the proceeds to buy currencies. _________________ Pépite Bull |
