How Does Colloidal Silver Work?
We are not going to try to second-guess the FDA’s rules and restrictions on this issue and what we can and cannot say. We will simply quote from the work performed by others at The Silver Institute, which is a nonprofit international association that draws its membership from across the breadth of the silver industry. Established in 1971, the Institute serves as the industry’s voice in increasing public understanding of the many uses and values of silver.
Colloidal silver works as a catalyst
A catalyst is best described as a substance that brings about (causes) a reaction or occurrence, without itself participating or being consumed. Richard Davies and Samuel Etris of The Silver Institute, in a 1996 monograph entitled “The Development and Functions of Silver in Water Purification and Disease Control”, discuss three mechanisms of deactivation that silver utilizes to incapacitate disease causing organisms. They are:
1) Catalytic Oxidation
Silver, in its atomic state, has the capacity to absorb oxygen and act as a catalyst to bring about oxidation. Atomic (nascent) oxygen absorbed onto the surface of silver ions in solution will readily react with the sulfhydryl (-S-H) groups surrounding the surface of bacteria or viruses to remove the hydrogen atoms (as water), causing the sulfur atoms to form an R-S-S-R bond; blocking respiration and causing the bacteria to expire. Employing a simple catalytic reduction/oxidation reaction, colloidal silver will react with any negative charge presented by the organism’s transport or membrane proteins and deactivate them.
2) Reaction with Bacterial Cell Membranes
There is evidence that silver ions attach to membrane surface radicals of bacteria, impairing cell respiration and blocking its energy transfer system. One explanation is based on the nature of enzyme construction: Specific enzymes are required for a given biochemical activity to take place. Enzyme molecules usually require a specific metallic atom as part of the molecular matrix in order to function. A metal of higher valance can replace a metal of lower valance in the enzyme complex, preventing the enzyme from functioning normally. Silver, with a valance of plus 2, can replace many metals with a lower, or equal valance that exhibit weaker atomic bonding properties.
3) Binding with DNA
Studies by C.L. Fox and S.M. Modak with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a tenacious bacteria that is difficult to treat, demonstrated that as much as 12% of silver is taken up by the organism’s DNA. While it remains unclear exactly how the silver binds to the DNA without destroying the hydrogen bonds holding the lattice together, it nevertheless prevents the DNA from unwinding, an essential step for cellular replication to occur.
Silver helps rebuild tissue
The mechanism by which silver ions help rebuild tissue has been studied for more than a decade by Robert O. Becker, M.D. of Becker Biomagnetics in New York. Dr. Becker initially reported his findings at the First International Conference on Silver and Gold in Medicine, co-sponsored by The Silver Institute in 1987. Since then, this technique has been used in clinical settings where hundreds of patients with various wounds have recovered. In addition, a laboratory study conducted by the US Army Institute for Surgical Research in Houston, Texas, showed that laboratory animals with burns treated under controlled conditions experienced shortened time for reconstruction with silver-nylon dressings.
Recovery of skin function was faster when electric current was applied compared to no application of electric current. Dr. Becker received a US patent for the devices, materials, and techniques involved in the regeneration of tissue using silver ions.
Dr. Becker explains how colloidal silver works
After several hundred cases, Dr. Becker believes that the technique works in three stages. The first stage is the chemical combination of highly active free silver ions with all bacteria or fungi present in the wound, which are inactivated within 20 to 30 minutes. The second stage occurs over the next few days. Silver acts on fibroblast cells to cause them to revert to their embryonic state, becoming stem cells. These cells are universal building blocks whose role is to reconstruct new tissue. In the final stage, silver ions form a complex with the living cells in the wound area to produce immediately convertible stem cells. The end result of this conversion is that the stem cells supply all the building blocks necessary to completely restore all anatomical structures.
Additional research by Dr. Becker indicated that during laboratory tests he conducted, cancer cells reverted to normal (not killed, but returned to normal). Other observations he and others have made are a correlation between silver deficiency and illness, proper immune system functioning, soft tissue and bone repair acceleration, the formation of cells that appear to be able to repair virtually any part of the body, reduction of inflammation, antimicrobial, antifungal, antibiotic properties, etc. All of these observations are yet to be fully understood. Patients have found relief from staph, strep, prostate and sinus infections, as well as laryngitis and sore throats, when treated with colloidal silver, says Debra Brammer, N.D., a naturopathic physician and faculty member at Seattle-based Bastyr University. Though few medical professionals are familiar with colloidal silver, no one disputes the need for an alternative to traditional antibiotics. Its proponents cite decades of word of mouth supporting its effectiveness, as well as published clinical studies in Europe and Australia.
No other known treatment provides sufficient numbers of the embryonic or stem cells required for true regeneration of damaged or destroyed tissues in human and animals. The success indicates that there is the potential not only for the healing of near-surface wounds, but also for regenerative repair of internal organs such as the heart, liver, brain, and the spinal cord.
Where can you get the very best colloidal silver in the world?
Most colloidal silvers are made using electrical currents pulsing through silver rods that are submerged in distilled water. The result is that the electrical current flows through the rods and kicks out silver ions into the distilled water which means there’s actually no real silver in it at all! That’s called ionic colloidal silver.

- National Institutes Of Health Discovers Protective Effects Of Coffee
An exciting new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that coffee drinking may add years to your life span.1
Evidence is rapidly accumulating about the ability of coffee to reduce vascular disease, slash cancer risk, preserve cognition, and mitigate diabetes/obesity.2
Rich in polyphenols, coffee contains over 1,000 different natural compounds3 that favorably interact within cells.4 Coffee has the proven ability to turn on genes that promote youthful cellular functions.4,5
One coffee compound in particular, chlorogenic acid provides a multitude of these benefits, including impeding after-meal glucose surges that can contribute to obesity and diabetes.6-11
Researchers have found a way to naturally "super charge" coffee and dramatically increase its healthy polyphenol content.12 This means people can obtain more of coffee's unique beneficial compounds while drinking less coffee. For those who can't drink coffee, standardized chlorogenic acid capsules are becoming enormously popular.
Before describing the longevity finding published in the New England Journal of Medicine, we first want to conjecture why coffee drinking still has negative health connotations.
One factor may be early memories of people drinking coffee who simultaneously smoked cigarettes. Smokers are often ravenous coffee drinkers.
Other unhealthy images are those suffering hangovers who use coffee to restore functionality, those suffering sleep deprivation who drink coffee to stay awake, and the hefty "cream and sugar" so many people add to their coffee. These images are hard to delete from our memory banks.
A more current negative health picture is the high-calorie coffee "milkshakes" that contribute to today's obesity epidemic. Certain religions admonish against tobacco, alcohol, and coffee, which implies that coffee drinkers are in the same poor-health category as nicotine addicts and alcoholics. Those who are able to abstain from alcohol addiction often switch to coffee. Finally, some people are sensitive to caffeine and are unable to drink coffee, or suffer heartburn in response to coffee consumption.
If one can dispel these negative images, then coffee drinking may rise to the conscious level of a healthy choice, analogous to green tea drinking.
Coffee Consumption Associated with Lower Risk of Death
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health, in collaboration with AARP (American Association of Retired People), explored coffee drinking habits and their impact on mortality.1 They enrolled 229,119 men and 173,141 women, beginning in 1995 and 1996, when the subjects were 50-71 years old. The subjects completed a thorough questionnaire probing their diet and lifestyle. Anyone with cancer, heart disease, or stroke at the time of enrollment was excluded, leaving basically healthy adults in late middle age.1
The researchers noted each participant's coffee consumption at the beginning of the study. Then they followed them for a total of 13 years, gathering data on a total of 5,148,760 person-years.1 This comprehensive study had massive statistical power.
During the study period, 33,731 men, and 18,784 women died of various causes.1 According to the raw data, the risk of death seemed elevated among coffee drinkers. But coffee drinkers were more likely to smoke cigarettes, markedly affecting the data.
After the researchers adjusted for smoking and other factors, they found a remarkably strong association between coffee drinking and survival.1 In other words, the more coffee the subjects drank; the less likely they were to die. You can see just how powerful this association was by looking at table 1.
That risk reduction applied to what epidemiologists call "all-cause mortality," that is, coffee drinking was associated with a markedly lower risk of dying for any reason at all. A closer look at the data revealed another fascinating fact, one that previous studies had already hinted at.13-15 The survival association with coffee drinking and death applied to the risk of dying from specific diseases, including heart and lung disease, stroke, diabetes, and infections. It even applied to the risk of dying from injuries and accidents.1
The protective effect of coffee drinking was evident whether subjects drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee.14
Caffeine, then, was not the protective component of coffee. Let's look at what else coffee contains that might explain its life-saving effects.
Coffee Polyphenols Have Multi-targeted Impact
In addition to caffeine, natural coffee beans contain more than 1,000 different compounds that could affect health and the risk of dying.3 Of those, the polyphenols are the best candidates, for several reasons.
Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants, with all the health benefits that implies. But polyphenols have other, more complex actions, including the surprising ability to modulate gene expression, regulating how much and how often a particular gene is "switched on."16-18 That means that polyphenols regulate many of a cell's most fundamental processes, including signaling that tells cells when to die, when to replicate, when to release or respond to other chemical signals, and so on.17,19
The net effects of this impact on cellular signaling include improvements in tissue repair, immunity, and the body's ability to maintain itself in a steady state, called homeostasis.17,19 Impaired cellular signaling has been implicated in causing cancer, type 2 diabetes, and the risks for heart disease and stroke.20
One polyphenol in particular, chlorogenic acid, is especially abundant in coffee, and is credited with providing many of its beneficial effects. Green coffee beans may possess up to 10% of dry weight chlorogenic acids making coffee the major source of chlorogenic acid in the diet.21 Along with other polyphenols, chlorogenic acid helps drive down the chronic inflammation that's associated with common diseases of aging, such as diabetes and atherosclerosis.6 Chlorogenic acid derivatives in roasted coffee protect cells with high fat content, like brain cells, helping to explain observations that coffee sustains cognition.7
Studies show that other coffee polyphenols beneficially influence the function of liver and fat cells, helping to reduce the impact of obesity and diabetes.8 A reduction in damage to DNA is the likely mechanism by which coffee consumption may lower your risk for cancer.9-11Coffee is the single largest source of those beneficial polyphenols and other antioxidants in our diets.21 On average, Americans who drink coffee consume 3.1 cups of coffee per day.22
But studies of benefits from coffee drinking consistently show that larger amounts, ranging from 4 to as many as 12 cups a day, provide the most protective benefits, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, liver disease, and Alzheimer's disease.2,23-35
It's obviously hard to drink that much coffee, and many people develop unpleasant, though not dangerous, side effects, such as heart palpitations and upset stomachs, if they try to consume that much. You will read about a new technique for retaining polyphenol content in both decaffeinated and regular coffee.
Let's now look at the many ways in which high coffee consumption is being linked to reduced risk of specific diseases.
- Despite long-held misconceptions, coffee drinking has major beneficial health effects.
- A recent massive study showed a 10-15% reduction in the risk of dying among people who consumed 6 or more cups of coffee
daily. Coffee drinking sharply lowers the risk of developing many chronic, age-related conditions, including cognitive decline, cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
- The newly discovered bioactive components in coffee are polyphenols, especially chlorogenic acid.
- But standard processing destroys much
of the polyphenol content.
- An improved, patented method for handling coffee prior to roasting can boost the
beverage's content of chlorogenic acid and other polyphenols by more than 200%, potentially reducing the number of daily cups required to achieve optimum health.
Coffee Benefits Your Brain
"Coffee consumption has been associated with benefits involving cognitive function in aging. For example, in one study of 676 individuals with an average age of about 75 years, coffee consumption was associated with significantly less cognitive decline over a 10-year time period. Furthermore, the least cognitive decline was observed with 3 cups of coffee per day, which was associated with a remarkable 4.3-times smaller level of decline in cognitive function compared with non-consumers of coffee (P<0.001)."36 (See figure 1)
Enriching coffee with polyphenols, especially chlorogenic acid, produces still greater benefits. Such innovative coffees are more neuroprotective even than green coffee, according to laboratory studies. One study showed green coffee increased brain cell survival by an impressive 78% in the face of severe oxidant stress, but a roasted coffee rich in chlorogenic acid derivatives produced a 203% increase in survival.7
A chlorogenic acid-enriched decaffeinated coffee improved mood and attention in a pilot study of 39 healthy older people, compared with standard decaf coffee. A non-decaffeinated roast of similar formulation showed even more powerful effects.37
These benefits are likely to be of special importance in the face of the growing epidemic of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. More than 40% of people over 84 will be stricken by Alzheimer's disease, according to recent estimates.38 Moderate levels of daily coffee consumption, 3-5 cups per day, are tied to reduced rates of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in older adults.35, 39, 40
Of special interest, animal studies now provide evidence that caffeinated coffee consumption (greater than about 5 cups per day in a human), not only protect against brain damage in Alzheimer's disease, but can even reverse some of that damage—in as little as 5 weeks.34
Some insight into how coffee attains its protection against Alzheimer's comes from studies of the "Alzheimer's protein" called Abeta. Caffeine, at levels comparable to 5 cups of coffee daily, reduces levels of the proteins that go into manufacture of Abeta, and lowers levels of Abeta itself in blood and brain tissue.34,41
There is a well-established relationship between high coffee intake and protection from Parkinson's disease as well. People who drink one to four cups of coffee daily experience 47% lower risk of the disease than those who drink none, and those who drink five or more cups have a 60% risk reduction.

The cancer drugs were found to make tumors ‘metasize’ and grow massively in size after consumption. As a result, the drugs killed the patients more quickly.
Known as WNT16B, scientists who performed the research say that this protein created from chemo treatment boosts cancer cell survival and is the reason that chemotherapy actually ends lives more quickly.
Co-author Peter Nelson of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle explains:
WNT16B, when secreted, would interact with nearby tumour cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy. The team then complimented the statement with a word of their own:
Our results indicate that damage responses in benign cells… may directly contribute to enhanced tumour growth kinetics. Meanwhile, dirt cheap substances like turmeric and ginger have consistently been found to effectively shrink tumors and combat the spread of cancer. In a review of 11 studies, it was found that turmeric use reduced brain tumor size by a shocking 81%. Further research has also shown that turmeric is capable of halting cancer cell growth altogether. One woman recently hit the mainstream headlines by revealing her victory against cancer with the principal spice used being turmeric.
This accidental finding reached by scientists further shows the lack of real science behind many ‘old paradigm’ treatments, despite what many health officials would like you to believe. The truth of the matter is that natural alternatives do not even receive nearly as much funding as pharmaceutical drugs and medical interventions because there’s simply no room for profit. En 1984 et 1985, sous le gouvernement Fabius, soit durant près de dix-huit mois, du sang contaminé par le VIH (virus du sida) a été collecté par le Centre National de Transfusion Sanguine, dirigé par le Dr Michel Garetta. Pourtant, le 20 juin 1983, une circulaire du professeur Jacques Roux, directeur général de la Santé, interdisait la collecte de sang chez les sujets à risque (notamment les prisonniers) alors même que le virus du sida venait pourtant tout juste d’être découvert en France. Malgré cela, Mme Myriam Ezratty, directrice générale de l’administration pénitentiaire demandait, par circulaire du 13 janvier 1984 que la fréquence des collectes auprès de la population carcérale soit accrue (pouvant ainsi passer de deux à six collectes par an). Les conséquences furent un drame national : près de 2 500 hémophiles, dont la maladie nécessite des transfusions sanguines fréquentes mourront donc de sang contaminé par le virus du sida. L’un des principaux arguments des prévenus est que le virus du sida seulement découvert en France en 1983 était encore très mal connu en 1984. Or, le principe de précaution a été indirectement inscrit dans la Constitution française en 2005, puisqu’il figure en l’article 5 de la Charte de l’Environnement de 2004, elle-même intégrée au bloc de constitutionnalité en 2005. Le principe de précaution a donc valeur constitutionnelle depuis SEPT ANS !

Selon l‘Institut de veille sanitaire (InVS) qui se fonde sur des données épidémiologiques :le nombre de personnes contaminées par le VIH est 65 fois plus élevé parmi les gays. Surtout, le taux d’incidence de la maladie, c’est-à-dire le nombre de nouvelles infections enregistrées chaque année, est 200 fois plus élevé dans cette population.
Selon l’étude Prévagay, publiée le 29 juin dans la revue en ligne, PLoS ONE, tous les ans, 4 % des hommes fréquentant les bars et boîtes de nuit homosexuels sont contaminés par le virus du sida. Cette étude a été réalisée dans 14 établissements parisiens par l’Institut de veille sanitaire (InVS) et l’Agence nationale de recherche sur le sida et les hépatites virales (ANRS). L’objectif de cette étude était principalement d’estimer la prévalence biologique de l’infection à VIH et son incidence chez des HSH qui fréquentent les lieux de convivialité gay parisiens . Alors que 60 % des hommes sollicités dans ces bars ont accepté un prélèvement sanguin, 157 échantillons sur 886 se sont révélés séropositifs pour le virus du sida, soit près de 17,7 %. La multiplication du nombre de partenaires augmentant le risque de contamination, ce résultat n’est pas surprenant puisque 50% des hommes testés et interrogés avaient plus de 10 partenaires par an et un tiers en avait même plus de 20. Stéphane Le Vu, épidémiologiste à l’InVS a donné l’explication suivante : «Si l’on considère un groupe de 100 hommes séronégatifs qui fréquentent ces lieux, on estime qu’environ 4 d’entre eux seront infectés au bout d’un an.» En d’autres termes, les personnes qui fréquentent ces établissements sont sujettes, dans de très fortes proportions, à un risque de contamination.”

MONDAY, Aug. 6 (HealthDay News) -- Chronic exposure to an artificial butter flavoring ingredient, known as diacetyl, may worsen the harmful effects of a protein in the brain linked to Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study.
The findings should serve as a red flag for factory workers with significant exposure to the food-flavoring ingredient, researchers from the University of Minnesota said in the report published in a recent issue of the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.
Diacetyl is used to give a buttery taste and aroma to common food items such as margarines, snack foods, candy, baked goods, pet foods and other products.
The investigators pointed out that previous studies have already linked diacetyl to respiratory and other health problems among workers at microwave popcorn and food-flavoring plants.
Although diacetyl forms naturally in fermented beverages, such as beer and wine, its chemical structure is similar to a substance that makes beta-amyloid proteins clump together in the brain. This clumping, the study authors noted, is a hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.
In their study, the researchers found that diacetyl also increases the amount of beta-amyloid clumping in the brain. And it worsened the beta-amyloid protein's harmful effects on nerve cells grown in a lab when the cells were exposed to the same levels of diacetyl that factory workers might be exposed to in their jobs.
The study authors pointed out that other experiments revealed that diacetyl also crosses the "blood-brain barrier," which helps protect the brain from dangerous substances. Diacetyl also prevented a beneficial protein from protecting nerve cells.
"In light of the chronic exposure of industry workers to diacetyl, this study raises the troubling possibility of long-term neurological toxicity mediated by diacetyl," Robert Vince and colleagues concluded in a news release from the American Chemical Society.
The study was funded by the Center for Drug Design research endowment funds at the University of Minnesota.
While the study found an association between chronic diacetyl exposure and certain brain protein processes, it did not prove a cause-and-effect relationship.

Reports in the media suggest that far from being the safe and effective weapons against disease that we have been led to believe they are, vaccines are not only are proving to be inefficient at protecting children against killer diseases but they have in fact been shown to be responsible for killing our kids on mass.
Child deaths reported as a result of vaccinations this year
On August 9, 2012, the Financial Express (2) reported that three babies had died after receiving the Hepatitis B vaccination in Hospet (Kar) Mumbai.
The Financial Express stated that a NGO (Non Government Organization) vaccinated a total of 24 babies between the ages of 18 months and 2 years with the vaccine and 15 of them developed complications. Of these 15, three had died and several more were still undergoing treatment.
I would like to add that the report seemed to place a strong emphasis on the fact that these children were vaccinated by a Non Government Organization, which I feel Is yet another ploy to enable the authorities to pass the buck at a later stage.
Gardasil Vaccine
Sadly these were not the only deaths connected to vaccines to be hitting our headlines recently. On August 8, 2012, the NZ (New Zealand) Herald reported that a mother in New Zealand believed the Gardasil vaccine, the vaccination against cervical cancer, was responsible for the death of her teenage daughter.
Ms Renata told reporters that she had found her daughter Jasmine dead in bed six months after she had received her third dose of the vaccination. She added that the year her daughter had received the vaccinations, she had never complained so much about her mental or physical state.
Sadly, this was not the only report I have found linking the Gardasil vaccination to the death of a child this year. In February, Linda Morin reported that she was suing Merck, the manufacturers of Gardasil, along with three doctors, pediatrician Guylaine Larose, neurologist Amelie Nadeau and her family doctor, Lynne Nadeau for the sum of $197,000. Ms. Morin stated that she had found her 14 year-old daughter Annabelle dead in the bathtub after she had received her second Gardasil vaccination.
According to LifeSiteNews (4) Linda Morin Annabelle’s mother had told reporters that she had been left in shock after discovering her daughter’s body. She said:
“I was shocked. I didn’t know what to do. This image will stay in my head for the rest of my life. It’s a nightmare. We often say that time heals things (but) time hasn’t healed anything yet.”
Not a very pleasant experience, I am sure you will agree, but sadly Annabelle was just one of a long line of children found dead after receiving their Gardasil vaccinations since the vaccination was recommended.
Moving on to deaths reported after the flu vaccine
On August 3, 2012, the Australian News (5) issued a report stating that a total of ten deaths had been linked to anti-flu vaccinations since 2008. (Although to be fair, the report did say that these deaths included unborn babies and elderly persons.)
The news report stated that there had been 2136 reports of adverse events following injection with CSL’s Fluvax and Fluvax Junior, the vaccine that replaced Panvax in 2010:
‘Fluvax is used for about half the nation’s estimated 6 million flu vaccinations each year. But the number of reported side-effects for Fluvax is five times higher than the other three most popular brands of flu vaccines together.’
This was not the only report indicating deaths after the flu vaccine this year. I reported that a previously healthy seven year-old had died in her mother’s arms in Vermont in January. (6)
Moving on to India
In July 2012 The Times of India (7) reported that two children had died after receiving the pentavalent vaccination (5 vaccines in 1). The Times of India reported that baby Tanujashree was just three months old when she was vaccinated with the 5 in 1 vaccination. She died within a few hours of being administered the vaccine. Reporters went on to say that Tanujasshree was the second child to have died after the vaccine, stating that in January the vaccine had also been responsible for the death of another three month-old baby who died in Kancheepuram within 24 hours of being given the vaccination.
These were not the only children to have died after the pentavalent vaccine this year.
In March 2012 the Refusers (8) reported that a total of four children had died after they had received the 5 in 1 vaccine in Kerala, India.
According to the report, experts argued that if the reaction occurred after the injection and there was no other cause for the reaction it must probably be due to the vaccine. This may be true but I bet another cause will be found very quickly. My guess is that the authorities will blame one of the following:
- Poor storage facilities
- Expired vaccinations
- A previously undiagnosed illness or virus that the child already had
- The person giving the vaccination was unqualified or inexperienced
- The vaccination was given by a NGO
My Final Vaccine Horror Story
My final vaccine horror story of the year is the death of baby Stacy who died after she received a whopping nine vaccines in one day at the tender age of eight weeks old (9). Stacy was a premature baby and left behind her twin sister Lesly. Her father said:
‘We are summoning every citizen of every country to take to the streets in their own cities, towns and villages: things must now change!’
He is absolutely right — things must change. How many deaths of innocent children will it take for parents to begin to educate themselves about the dangers of vaccinations? I realize that not every child will die after a vaccination, but let’s face it — our children are fast becoming the unhealthiest children the world has ever seen. The way I see it, it is a far cry from the wonderful picture that our governments and pharmaceutical industries paint, isn’t it? Please, parents — educate yourselves fully about the dangers of vaccinations before you have your child vaccinated. Remember that an educated choice is a good choice.

If you live in the U.S. and drink Mountain Dew and some other citrus-flavored sodas, then you are also getting a dose of a synthetic chemical called brominated vegetable oil (BVO).
BVO was first patented by chemical companies as a flame retardant.
The chemical is banned in food throughout Europe and Japan.
But BVO has been added to about 10 percent of sodas in North America for decades, even though it has resulted in soda-drinkers needing medical attention for skin lesions, memory loss and nerve disorders -- all symptoms of overexposure to bromine.
Studies suggest that BVO can build up in human tissues, and animal studies have found it causes reproductive and behavioral problems in large doses.
According to Scientific American:
"Reports from an industry group helped the U.S. Food and Drug Administration establish in 1977 what it considers a safe limit for BVO in sodas.
But some scientists say that limit is based on data that is thin and several decades old, and they insist that the chemical deserves a fresh look ...
With natural alternatives already in use in other countries, why not switch in North America too?"
What is Brominated Vegetable Oil, and Why is it Used in Soda?
Brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is vegetable oil, derived from corn or soy, bonded with the element bromine. It's added as an emulsifier, to prevent the flavoring from separating and floating to the surface. The FDA limits the amount of BVO allowed in fruit-flavored beverages to 15 parts per million.
Bromines are common endocrine disruptors, and are part of the halide family, a group of elements that includes fluorine, chlorine and iodine. What makes it so dangerous is that it competes for the same receptors that are used to capture iodine. If you are exposed to a lot of bromine, your body will not hold on to the iodine that it needs. And iodine affects every tissue in your body, not just your thyroid.
Health Risks of Bromine
As mentioned, when you ingest or absorb bromine, it displaces iodine. The resulting iodine deficiency can in turn lead to an increased risk for cancer of the breast, thyroid gland, ovary and prostate -- cancers that we see at alarmingly high rates today. This phenomenon is significant enough to have been given its own name: the Bromide Dominance Theory.
Bromine is also toxic in and of itself. It can accumulate in your tissues, central nervous system, and breast milk, resulting in a number of health problems. One 1971 study published in the British Journal of Nutrition concluded that:
"These findings, in conjunction with previous animal studies and with the geographical differences in the use of brominated vegetable oils as food additives, suggest that the high bromine levels found in the fat of tissues from UK children are due to the use of these compounds."
One 1983 animal study also found that rats receiving one percent BVO in their feed suffered impaired fertility, and at two percent, they became completely infertile.
Bromine is known to act as a central nervous system depressant, and can trigger a number of psychological symptoms such as acute paranoia and other psychotic symptoms. In fact, in an audio interview, physician Jorge Flechas reported that, between 1920 and 1960, at least 20 percent of all hospital admissions for "acute paranoid schizophrenia" were a result of ingesting bromine-containing products. In addition to psychiatric problems, bromine toxicity can manifest as:
- Skin rashes and severe acne
- Loss of appetite and abdominal pain
- Fatigue
- Metallic taste
- Cardiac arrhythmias
Scientific American cites two case studies of bromine toxicity in humans:
"In 1997, emergency room doctors at University of California, Davis reported a patient with severe bromine intoxication from drinking two to four liters of orange soda every day. He developed headaches, fatigue, ataxia (loss of muscle coordination) and memory loss. In a 2003 case reported in Ohio, a 63-year-old man developed ulcers on his swollen hands after drinking eight liters of Red Rudy Squirt every day for several months. The man was diagnosed with bromoderma, a rare skin hypersensitivity to bromine exposure. The patient quit drinking the brominated soft drink and months later recovered."
Bromine's Effect on Your Thyroid
Iodine is crucial for proper thyroid function. Without iodine, your thyroid gland would be completely unable to produce thyroid hormone. Even the names of the different forms of thyroid hormone reflect the number of iodine molecules attached -- T4 has four attached iodine molecules, and T3 (the biologically active form of the hormone) has three--showing what an important part iodine plays in thyroid biochemistry. Hypothyroidism is far more prevalent than once thought in the U.S.
The latest estimates are that 13 million Americans have hypothyroidism, but the actual numbers are probably higher. Some experts claim that 10 to 40 percent of Americans have suboptimal thyroid function.
But many of these folks may actually have nothing wrong with their thyroid gland at all. They may just be suffering from iodine deficiency, brought on by too little iodine-containing foods and/or too much exposure to bromine—whether in the form of bromine-laced foods and drinks, or from some other source—which end up blocking iodine uptake…

Ditch the Soda to Dramatically Improve Your Health
In the featured article, Walter Vetter, a food chemist at Germany's University of Hohenheim, suggests American soda makers could easily replace BVO with something far safer, such as hydrocolloids, which are used in many sodas sold in Europe.
"They are almost exclusively natural products," Vetter says.
The reason for soda makers' unwillingness to swap out the offending ingredient for their American customers is unclear, but considering the fact that many of these sodas are already sold overseas without BVO in them, one can only surmise that their unwillingness to change has to do with cost…
Personally, I strongly recommend ditching all sodas, regardless of where you live or what particular additives are included, as the primary health hazard of soda consumption is tied to the excessive amounts of fructose you're ingesting. Quite simply, it's a leading contributor to the rising rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases facing Americans. Just one can of soda per day can add as much as 15 pounds to your weight over the course of a single year, not to mention increase your risk of diabetes by 85 percent!
There's really no shortage of research showing the profound impact of soda consumption on your health. For example:
- Dr. David Ludwig of Boston Children's Hospital did a study of the effects of sugar-sweetened drinks on obesity in children. He found that for each additional serving of a sugar-sweetened drink, both body mass index and odds of obesity increased.
- The Fizzy Drink Study in Christchurch, England explored the
effects on obesity when soda machines were removed from schools for one year. In the schools where the machines were removed, obesity stayed constant. In the schools where soda machines remained, obesity rates continued to rise.
- In a 2009 study, 16 volunteers were fed a controlled diet
including high levels of fructose. Ten weeks later, the volunteers had produced new fat cells around their hearts, livers and other digestive organs. They also showed signs of food-processing abnormalities linked to diabetes and heart disease. A second group of volunteers who were fed a similar diet, but with glucose replacing fructose, did not have these problems.
Weaning yourself and your kids off the sweet stuff, and replacing it with clean, pure water can be one of the most profoundly beneficial changes you'll ever make.

La Transe

Les États de Conscience
ECO : Dans le quotidien, nous vivons dans ce que l’on appelle l’état de conscience ordinaire (ECO) qui est une orientation du mental et de l’être sur l’extérieur de soi (travail, activités, nécessités et obligations...). L’ECO est lié aux ondes cérébrales Bêta (voir plus loin) et est consommateur d’énergie vitale. Il use et n’amène pas le corps à produire des endorphines. États de Conscience et ondes cérébrales
Le cerveau est parcouru en permanence d’ondes cérébrales. Il y a différents types d’ondes cérébrales identifiées sur l’Electroencéphalogramme (EEG) et elles sont en rapport avec des états de conscience spécifiques :
Bêta (au-dessus de 13 hertz) : Elles sont corrélées à l’activité tournée vers l’extérieur, à la combativité, à l’effort, au travail. Nearly two-thirds of Americans are now either overweight or obese and their health costs are 150% of those of normal weight, mostly due to the prevalence of type II diabetes, heart disease and other conditions.
16% of US children between the ages of 6 and 19 are now classified overweight or obese according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - a number that has tripled since 1980.
Where the US leads, other countries inevitably follow and in the UK, women have become broader, wider, taller and bigger than a generation or so ago. Since the 1950s, the average female waist has risen from 70 to 86 cm (27.5 to 34 inches) and the average bra size has grown from a 34B a decade ago to 36C today.
We are constantly told this is because we are lazy, make poor food choices and eat too much.
But here's a fact that might be hard to explain away.
In 2006 scientists at the Harvard School of Public Health reported that the prevalence of obesity in babies under 6 months had risen 73% in the previous 25 years!
Since these babies are only consuming formula or breast milk and all small babies are similarly inactive, the usual explanations for obesity do not apply.
The suggestion is that this observation is due to exposure in the womb and in early-life to hormone-mimicking environmental pollutants which have come to known as obesogens for their ability to:
- Act
on genes in the developing foetus and baby and convert precursor cells into fat cells which then remain with the individual for life
- Promote the proliferation of fat cells
- Alter the individual's metabolic rate so that the body hoards calories rather than burning them
- Disrupt normal endocrine gland and hormone function and
- Alter the processes of satiation so that affected individual is often hungry
Obesogens: The background
The lifelong effects of early life exposure to a variety of influences are only now just starting to be recognised under the newly developing speciality of foetal origins. We already know that exposure to hormone-like chemicals in the womb can cause serious illness decades later. For example, it is known that women whose mothers took the oestrogen-like drug DES during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage have a high risk of contracting cervical and vaginal cancer during their lifetime.
The link between the use of environmental chemicals such as pesticides and plasticisers and the current obesity epidemic was first mooted by Paula Baillie-Hamilton, a doctor at Stirling University in Scotland who published a paper on the subject in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2002.
Subsequently, other researchers picked up Baillie-Hamilton's idea giving it exposure in more mainstream publications. One such researcher was Jerrold Heindel of the US National Institute of Environmental Health Services (NIEHS) who published a paper in a widely read toxicology journal in 2003.
In his paper he pointed out that when many of the chemicals Baillie-Hamilton discussed had been tested for toxicity, researchers had focussed on whether they caused weight loss, which is considered a toxic effect, but that researchers had overlooked the possibility of weight gain. Referring back to those studies, Heindel found that a number of the chemicals studied caused weight gain at the low doses that foetuses and newborns had been exposed to.
Heindel also referred to the work of scientists in Japan, who were finding in laboratory studies that low levels of certain compounds, such as bisphenol A (found in polycarbonate plastics) and some other industrial compounds, made cells destined to become fibroblasts (prefibroblasts) turn into fat cells. They also found that these compounds stimulated the proliferation of existing fat cells.
His colleague, Retha Newbold also of the NIEHS who had been studying the effects of oestrogens for 30 years now started to investigate the effect of low doses of hormone-mimicking compounds on newborn mice. Within six months, the mice were 20% heavier and had 36% more body fat than unexposed mice. And the study mice were measured carefully for activity and amounts consumed and there was no difference between the exposed and unexposed groups.
Bruce Blumberg of the University of California, Irvine had also read the 2002 Baillie-Hamilton paper and began to feed pregnant mice tributyltin, a disinfectant and fungicide used in marine paints and the production of plastics and other products, which has become a contaminant of seafood and drinking water. "The offspring were born with more fat already stored, more fat cells, and became 5 to 20% fatter by adulthood," Blumberg said.
Further genetic tests revealed the mechanism of action. The tributyltin was found to activate a cell receptor (PPAR gamma), which can switch the fate of the cell from becoming a fibroblast (fibrous cell) to becoming a fat cell. In fact, the diabetes drugs Actos and Avandia both activate this receptor for which reason one of their major side-effects is recognised to be obesity.
The term obesogen was originally coined by Felix Grün and was taken up by Bruce Blumberg for compounds which have the ability to alter a cell's fate. Later tests revealed phthalates [used to make soft vinyl plastics such as teats on babies' bottles and clingfilm (saran wrap)] and perfluoroalkyl compounds (used in stain repellents and non-stick cooking surfaces) are also obesogens.
Obesogens: The Research
- Retha
Newbold of NIEHS began feeding newborn rats genistein, an oestrogen-like compound found in soy, at doses like those in soy milk and soy formula. By 4 months, the rats fed genistein were heavier and fatter than the control mice, without eating significantly more.
- In
2005 scientists in Spain reported that the more pesticides children were exposed to in the womb, the greater their risk of being overweight as toddlers.
- A
study by David Tenenbaum found an association between prenatal exposure to hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and being overweight or obese in childhood (October 2008, Acta Paediatrica). Although HCB is one of the Persistent Organic Pollutants now banned in Europe by the 2001 Stockholm Convention it had been widely used for the previous 7 decades to kill fungi on crop seeds and in some manufacturing processes. Its commercial use in the US was discontinued in 1965.
- Prenatal
exposure to HCB has also been linked to the age of puberty and menopause, asthma, fertility and to an increased likelihood of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- In
a prospective study conducted on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Minorca, umbilical cord levels of various pollutants were measured and the children monitored. Results showed a direct relationship between cord blood levels of HCB and weight at 6 years of age.
- A Belgian study found
that children exposed to higher levels of PCBs and DDE (the breakdown product of the pesticide DDT) in the womb were fatter than those exposed to lower levels.
- Research
published by Janet Osuch, an epidemiologist at Michigan State University followed up the daughters of previous research subjects whose toxin levels had been monitored in a previous study and whose average age was about 30. Her research showed no link between uterine PCB exposure and obesity, but did reveal a strong link between exposure to DDE in the womb and later obesity. She also found earlier puberty, more diabetes and other signs of endocrine disruption in the DDE exposed group (Occupational and Environmental Medicine, March 2009).
So far, so bad. But adipocytes are not just passive fat storage sites. Fat deposits also act as endocrine organs producing hormones such as leptin and oestrogen which further encourage fat deposition.
Oestrogen
Oestrogen encourages fat to be deposited around the hips, thighs and bottom in the traditional pear shape. Although men traditionally store fat around their belly in an apple shape, some obese men do store fat around their avoirdupois and also may develop 'man boobs' or gynaecomastia as a result of excess oestrogen exposure.
Sperm counts too have dropped dramatically in recent decades and this may also be an effect of exposure to excess oestrogens and oestrogen-like chemicals in the environment.
Leptin
The word leptin is derived from the Greek word leptos meaning thin and is a hormone which is primarily produced by body fat that plays an important role in controlling appetite and metabolism. It may be circulating leptin levels that ultimately defeat many a dieter!
It was first identified when obese and voracious laboratory mice were studied and found to carry genetic mutations for either the hormone leptin or its receptors. Further, when injected with leptin the body weight, amount of body fat and appetites of the formerly obese mice normalised.
The amount of leptin in circulation is directly proportional to the total amount of fat in the body. However, leptin can also be produced by the placenta, foetal membranes and uterus for which reason blood levels rise during pregnancy and it may be leptin that is responsible for morning sickness.
As fat deposits increase, so does leptin production and it is thought that individuals may become leptin resistant in the same way as some become insulin resistant in response to excessive amounts of circulating hormones. One study suggests that the consumption of high amounts of fructose may causes leptin resistance and elevated triglycerides in rats.
Are the obese to blame?
Although some obese people eat too much and of the wrong kinds of foods, they know who they are. Many however, genuinely eat no more than their slim friends and exercise no less, but are unable to lose weight.
However, exposure to obesogens in-utero can probably only held to be responsible for excess weight in those who have had lifelong weight problems and not for those who piled on the pounds in adulthood.
Also, this explanation probably only applies to those under the age of 50 who will have been exposed to these pollutants in the womb. Further, since almost everyone tests positive to these toxins, it is thought that timing, quantities and individual genetic susceptibilities must also play a role in determining later predispositions to obesity.
A 1990s study of identical twins discovered that genetics may account for 80% of your weight and body shape. In another study of 35 pairs of twins, where one twin was active and the other sedentary, the siblings who exercised had a lower BMI than their inactive twin but neither were overweight.
There is the role of activity to consider too and a Canadian study found that up to 40% of exercise habits are also acquired from the family and that 50% of a person's attitude towards activity comes from other environmental factors such as school and friends.
The mother's diet during pregnancy has also been implicated, with the widespread introduction of fructose over the last two decades coinciding with increases in weight gain during pregnancy and in birth weight.
Dr Robert Lustig, professor of paediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco has also identified hyperactivity of the beta cells of the pancreas in 20% of the obese population and which leads to excess insulin production and promotes fat deposition.
So regarding the body as a biological machine operating on the simple basis of calories consumed versus calories expended is starting to look not only simplistic, but downright wrong. Take heart though, according to Paula Baillie-Hamilton it IS possible to lose the weight and normalise your metabolism with sufficient detoxification.

One of the Russian scientists, Alexander Stiepanow put a dish with distilled water on the forehead of lying man. It was made to save microenergetic information extracted from the man. Then, Stiepanov began to study a graphic record (chart) of water used in his experiment with a special device.
He compared it with another chart obtained in the case of ordinary water, not exposed to biomagnetic field of human being.
These two charts were UNLIKE!
Now it was time for another experiment. Alexander Stiepanov put a glass of distilled water on exactly the same place but on photography of the man's forehead.
Then, the scientist compared the graphic record obtained in the second experiment with the first one. Two graphic records were IDENTICAL! The graph for water exposed to contact with the man's forehead gave the same reading as the graph exposed only to the man's forehead on photography.
The scienstist repeated the experiment several times. The result was always the same.

The essence of the memory of water can be compared to the alphabetic puzzle - same letters can be arranged into different words with different meanings, which have ifferent information. Such letters are in the case of water - its molecules.
It's like a "code" containing a whole range of relevant information and suitable properties but depending on many different factors. Similarly, as in the case of the genetic code of living organisms.
Water is one of the carriers of such information.
This information can be transmitted further via internet, phone lines... It's hard to imagine what more can be made with this kind of information.
The possible applications are innumerable.
